Diane Morgenstern, Superintendent and District Administrator

I had the unique pleasure of joining the Mountain School community in 2010 to serve as Superintendent/ Principal. Prior to accepting my current leadership role for Mountain Elementary School District, I worked as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for Santa Cruz City Schools. I began my teaching career in Santa Cruz in 1985 and taught Kindergarten, First Grade, Third Grade, Gifted And Talented Education and Title I Language Arts. I accepted my first administrative position in 1998 and have served as Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of Curriculum and Assessment for grades K-12.

Mountain School is a place I like to refer to as ‘Destination Schooling.’ In many ways, we offer the elementary education that every parent would wish for his or her child. In addition to a rich academic program, we prioritize both the arts and citizenship as cornerstones of excellent preparation for middle school and beyond. We are blessed with an amazing parent community. We all care deeply about each of ‘our’ children here at Mountain, and I am proud to work for and with a Faculty, Support Staff, Office Team, and Board of Education who truly give heart and soul to this amazing work.

When not busy with the dynamic and wonderful world of school district leadership, I enjoy spending quality time with good friends, exercise, yoga, my brilliant dog, walks around our beautiful Monterey Bay Sanctuary, and tending to our home in the Soquel hills.
